Dispatching service - snow aftermath

Unfortunately we are having some delays in dispatching Bumgenius nappies to some orders placed since the week we had snow.  We are due to receive stock from Bumgenius which everyday fails to arrive.  This is because Bumgenius warehouse in Ireland was closed for few days and they have had to deal with a huge backlog, and the couriers they use are also running four days behinds (due to the backlog from the week of snow and because this is a very busy time for them- more info can be found here.

This means we have some orders delayed or we are sending part-orders with some items on back order. If your order was affected we will email you to let you know the status of your order.

The good news is that our local courier is going to work through the weekend to try and deliver us and other customers their parcels, and if we receive the parcels we will also be working on the weekend to process all delayed orders.

Fingers crosss there are no more delays! and we thank you for all your patience!

p.s what the news are saying - The bad weather puts Christmas gifts delivery in doubt (the independent),  and Royal Mail takes on 3,000 more staff to beat weather (bbc)

news roundup for october #2

Shipping is now free for orders above £30 and just £1.50 for orders under £30 - we would love to be able to provide you free shipping on all orders, as we have done for a long while, but since April of this year Royal Mail has hiked their prices for small packets. This has caused it to be unsustainable for us as a small business to absorve those extra costs!

Ecobubs wool pocket nappies have finally arrived - medium size now in stock!

We have three new nappies for tiny newborns or premature babies. An average newborn baby is 7lbs / 3kgs and most nappies start from this weight, including birth-to-potty nappies. So what can babies who are born with less weight, use? definitely, not disposables. So we now have these nappies to fill in while baby takes their time to grow a bit! We specially love Imse Vimse Contour newborn nappy, a nappy with a simple design allowing quick drying and very economical!

We also "have" to mention the soft-breathable organic velour of the Swaddlebees newborn nappy - one of the most beautiful frabics to be used on cloth nappies!

Tuesday 5 October 2010

news roundup for october

During October we will have some changes in the shop. The shipping costs have changed, there is now free shipping for orders above £50. For orders under £50 there is a flat fee of £2. This means that the discounted shipping rates to Europe are for orders above £50 also.

The shippment for the Ecobubs wool pocket nappies is going to arrive this month. This delay means that we continue to have the medium size out of stock.

The new products for October are Baby BeeHinds bamboo fold-up boosters. A 30cm x 30 cm square piece of the softest bamboo cloth that can be used as a booster pad, burp cloth or for any other use; and new items from Speesees organic baby clothes and Kate Quinns organic baby clothes.

Fuzzi Bunz One Size - back in stock

We are back in stock with Fuzzi Bunz one size pocket nappy. Due to supply problems we have only four colours in stock in very limited numbers. However we will have more stock within two or three weeks.

To order fuzzi Bunz One Size Pocket Nappy click here

Fuzzi Bunz , the inventors of the pocket nappy, know what makes a great nappy and are always seeking for solutions. How to make an one size nappy that will fit snuggly even when baby is small? the solution by Fuzzi Bunz was to make a nappy that has adjustable elastic at the legs and waist. As baby grows, and you will need the nappy to be bigger, you adjust the elastic to a new setting. So instead of purchasing a new lot of nappies  you just take the time to adjust the elastic.

Video shows how to use the Fuzzi Bunz One Size Pocket Nappy:

Trainer Pants Sale: 30% off

Trainer Pants Sale: 30% off all trainer pants and 20% off Becopotty, a potty made from waste plants (who needs plastic to make potties?).   For more info click here

72 hours left to Stop Whale Killing!‏

In 72 hours the International Whaling Commission will hold its final vote on a proposal to legalize commercial whale hunting for the first time in a generation.

The outcome rests on whose voices are heard most clearly in the final hours: the pro-whaling lobby -- or the world's people?

More than 900,000 of us have signed the petition to protect whales -- let's get to 1 million!! At the whale summit in Morocco, an Avaaz team is setting up billboards, front-page newspaper ads, and a giant, constantly-updating petition counter -- all to ensure that delegates, from the moment they step off the plane until they cast their votes, will see from our explosive numbers that the world will not accept legal whale slaughter. Click to sign, and forward this to everyone:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/whales_72hrs_left/?vl

Thanks to the worldwide outcry, many governments have already pledged to oppose the proposal. Each time the Avaaz whale petition added 100,000 signatures, it was sent again to the IWC and key governments -- some of them thanked us, and Australia's environment minister is set to accept the petition personally in the midst of the tense talks.

But pressure from the other side has been relentless -- a newspaper investigation has triggered revelations about Japan effectively bribing small nations with aid. Other governments, especially in Europe and Latin America, could abstain... or even support the proposal. The vote could go either way.

Citizen pressure is our best hope -- and it's working. The whaling lobby expected to win easily, but thanks to actions like ours, champions of the ban are standing strong. It was an explosive worldwide social movement in the 1980s that led to the commercial whaling ban we're now protecting. Now civil society access to the talks is being limited, so this powerful petition campaign is a vital channel of worldwide pressure in the final 72 hours of negotiations.

Let's deliver 1 million signatures inside the talks before it's too late! -- sign now and spread the word:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/whales_72hrs_left/?vl

After the global ban was first implemented on commercial whaling, the number of whales killed each year plummeted from 38,000 per year to just a couple of thousand. It's a testament to the power of humanity to move forward. As we move to confront the other crises of the modern age, let's cherish this legacy of progress -- by joining together now to protect our majestic and intelligent neighbors on this fragile planet.

P.S.: Despite the ban, Japan, Norway, and Iceland have continued whaling -- and are now pushing to make the IWC proposal as lenient as possible. Expecting permission to catch more whales than ever, Japan is reportedly planning to buy its largest whaling ship yet. Click here to sign the petition against commercial whaling!

"a wish for my baby" book

To promote Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's Real Nappy campaign and reach new audiences, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, in partnership with Wiltshire Council, has published its first-ever baby book ‘A Wish for My Baby’, designed to be a baby’s first book about looking after the planet and each other.

The idea is that parents will share this book with their child and take in the simple message that we need to be more sustainable in our approach to parenting and take greater care of our natural environment, so that our children can grow up in a world rich in wildlife and respect for all living creatures.

The message is complemented with delightful photographs of babies wearing real nappies, taken by photographer Tobias Robins, and charming line drawings of birds, butterflies and flowers.

The book has been printed on recycled paper using vegetable-based inks, and has been produced and spiral bound – using recycled plastic – in the UK. All the pages are ‘dribble-proof’ making it an ideal gift for babies and toddlers, as well as parents-to-be.

Copies are priced at £3.99 and can be purchased via the Trust’s website http://www.wiltshirewildlife.org/

road safety campaign - a video everybody should watch!

This is a video everybody should watch. Made in australia by an organisation called TAC (the transport accident commission).

Cars are fantastic mode of transport but we cannot forget they are lethal machines... the responsability that we have for other lives and wellbeing, and for our own lives, is huge!

Drink and driving is heavily featured in the video, but i suppose another cause more pertinent to new mums and dads is sleepness.

Reclaiming Birth - March to Whitehall

RECLAIMING BIRTH: AN INVITATION TO THE EVENT OF THE YEAR: A MARCH THROUGH LONDON TO WHITEHALL TO DELIVER A PETITION TO THE HEALTH MINISTER & LETTERS TO THE PRIME MINISTER:

This government really needs to understand that there is a lot of strong feeling about the state of the maternity services, nothing would demonstrate that more than 1000's of bumps and babies and people walking together to demonstrate their belief that we need to reclaim birth back from the machine and to demand the government turns all the rhetoric into action - no more policy but real, tangible change in every community throughout the country

Anyone who has a link into other groups such as the WI / doulas / MSLCs / yoga groups / schools /community groups etc - please mobilise them all, it would be so good to get all the generations turning out to support the provision of humane and holistic birth as a right for all women

PLEASE, PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT THERE AND TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO COME ON THE DAY. THERE HAS BEEN A GREAT DEAL OF WORK DONE TO GET THIS ORGANISED - THE POWER OF PEOPLE ON THE STREETS CANNOT BE BEATEN - LETS GET OUT THERE AND ADD OUR VOICE TO THE DEMAND FOR CHANGE

Many thanks for your support
